Working towards a Regional Film Fund

Gävleborg is one of the few regions in Sweden that currently has no film fund or co-production support for feature films or TV series. While Film Gävleborg supports short films and emerging creators, larger productions often choose neighboring regions that offer financial incentives tied to local spending.

We believe Gävleborg should be part of that landscape.

We are working to establish a regional film fund together with local filmmakers, municipalities, and cultural institutions. In December 2024, over 100 film workers signed a petition calling for regional support, followed by a large industry meeting in Kilafors in March 2025. The work is ongoing, and we continue to push for political support and collaboration.

A fund would mean more productions, more jobs, stronger regional identity, and greater exposure for Hälsingland and Gävleborg.

Until then, productions are still welcome here—our landscapes, talent, and resources are already in place. The fund is simply the next step in unlocking the region’s full potential.
